Education needed to prevent HIV and Aids

Education is key to preventing HIV and Aids spreading, an expert has claimed.

Dr Hubert Minnis, minister of health in the Bahamas, made this comment in relation to the country's approach to tackling the diseases, Bahamasislandinfo.com reports.

He said that young people need to have motivated and understanding if they are to be safeguarded from contracting HIV and Aids.

Dr Minnis was quoted by the news provider as saying: "Getting the education and awareness message out to young people in these age-group categories is a key element in the prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS in the Bahamas."

He also praised companies and bodies which encourage young people to be tested for the diseases.

Dr Minnis was speaking at the College of the Bahamas' third HIV Testing Day.

Earlier this week, Elton John, commenting at a benefit night for Aids Foundation, called for more education on Aids and HIV, saying that this guidance is needed for each generation.
