HIV services for Uganda's adolescents
Children and adolescents in several districts in Uganda will be offered HIV/Aids services through a five-year project.
According to an official Vincent Bagambe the President's Emergency Programme for Aids Relief $25 million grant, the projects will reach out to young people in five districts, as well as expectant women, reports New Vision.
Mr Bagambe added that treatment centres were more often offered to those in urban areas, as opposed to populations living in the countryside.
"Currently, only 8,000 children are getting ARVs out of the 47,000 who are eligible.
"There are only 115 health facilities providing the services. The project will see more 133 health facilities brought on board."
A new rapid HIV oral test application is on its way to being approved by the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA).
The developer and manufacturer of HIV diagnostics tests, Calypte Biomedical Corporation, announced that "a major milestone in a long and difficult approval process" had been made, said Roger I Gale, the company's president and chief executive.
