Malaria treatments set for trials in Papua New Guinea

Two new malaria treatments are set to be trialled in Papua New Guinea.

Super Critical Extraction New Zealand and Australia (SCENZE) has announced the development of the nutraceutical treatment delivery systems, both containing artemisinin.

The first treatment is designed for adults and is delivered in tablet form. A second is a lozenge form of dosage, aimed at treating children.

Both formulas of treatment use several compounds in combination with the artemisinin to reduce the odds of a mutation effect on the ability of the artemisinin to fight the malaria parasite.

SCENZA reports that it is working with doctors in Papua New Guinea to conduct trials for the two treatments and discussions are ongoing with potential distributors in anticipation of the trial being successful.

Malaria is caused by a parasite called plasmodium, which is transmitted by bites from infected mosquitoes.

The parasites multiply in the liver and then infect red blood cells.
