Message from the President
Nils Daulaire, MD, MPH, President & CEO, Global Health Council
In a recent story on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered, host Robert Siegel reported “People are already calling this the year of Internet television...” Regardless of whether 2007 truly represents a transformative year for this technology, the trends are pretty clear: people are increasingly turning to the Internet as a primary source of information, and they are looking for that information to be available to them in exciting, innovative and interactive ways. Indeed, the NPR story highlighted the potential advantage of the Internet’s “lean forward” interactive experience as opposed to the “lean back” experience of traditional television. For that reason, it gives me great pleasure to announce not only the return of our daily Global Health TV telecast at this year’s conference, but also the launch of www.globalhealthtv.com, an online source of video programming for the global health community. Updated throughout the year and accessible from the Global Health Council’s website, www.globalhealth.org, Global Health TV will highlight conferences, stories from the field, and news regarding Council events and programs. In partnership with the London-based hbl media, the Council looks forward to playing a leading role in the development of online programming in global health. We invite you to “lean forward” with us, and become an active participant in the creation and continuous improvement of this new space for dialogue, learning and exchange.
