Stories of Mothers Lost

A Promise of Healthy Pregnancy and Safe Childbirth for All

Nearly 600,000 women die every year and several million more suffer devastating illnesses and disability due to complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. The White Ribbon Alliance in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), have created a traveling multi-media exhibition, which includes quilt panels dedicated to a testimony of a maternal death and includes stories of local 'Heroes.' These 'Heroes' are people who have gone to great lengths to keep mothers and children alive. They show how ordinary people can, and are, responding to the needs of women and children in extraordinary circumstances all over the world.
