The Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium

Malaria, a major cause of severe anaemia in mothers and low birth weight in babies

The Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium, based at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, has forty partners across 27 countries and hopes its five year research programme will directly benefit the 50 million women exposed to malaria whilst pregnant every year. Malaria in pregnancy is a major cause of severe anaemia in mothers and low birth weight in babies. With more effective control of malaria in pregnancy the lives of 100,000 children could be saved in Africa alone.
