Fighting the Effects of Intestinal Worms
Children Without Worms
At least 600 million school-age children around the world are at risk of infection from intestinal worms. They infect nearly one in five around the world and are linked to as many as 135,000 deaths a year. These parasites rob young children of the energy they need to grow and learn and render them susceptible to other, more serious infections. Founded by pharma Johnson & Johnson in 2008, Children Without Worms (CWW) has provided 5 million doses of mebendazole each year in Cambodia - improving the lives of more than 2.5 million children. CWW also partnered with Helen Keller International (HKI)/Cambodia to implement hygiene education and deworming. This combined approach helps prevent re-infection while promoting demand for treatment programs.
