The path to elimination

Sleeping Sickness, is one of a number of diseases that appeared to be under control in Africa but underwent a revival in the 1990s. With conflict and diseases such as HIV/AIDS taking precedence, the management of sleeping sickness was neglected. These days the incidence is decreasing, drug supplies are widely and consistently available, and new drugs are in development. Global Heath TV visits the Democratic Republic of Congo to see how partnerships involving the national program, NGOs and public-private partnerships between the WHO, sanofi-aventis and Bayer, mean the disease is slowly being conquered once more.
